How the MOC Works

In case you didn't know, MOC stands for Monthly Original Character. Here is how the contest part works. On the first day of the month, the character's details are posted and the contest officially begins. Your job is to create a character based on the guidelines I set. The submission deadline is the third Friday of the month (so you have roughly three weeks to complete and send in your art/story). The voting period is between the third weekend of the month up till the last weekend (so you have a week to vote). Sometimes the week is split between two months. Then the results are tallied and the results posted over that last weekend.

Most of the time I am late with updating the MOC. The voting period starts day the voting page is set up and a week from that date is it's conclusion.

-The Rules-

1. Here is the most important rule. Have fun! I know this is over-stressed, but I really want you guys to enjoy creating your character/story and not to worry about the competition. One of the reasons I wanted to start the MOC up again is because the old MOC was a relaxed and exciting contest more than a serious competition.

2. Another important rule: No cheating. This applies to both entrants and voters:
Entrants: Sending in an image or story that was not created by you or was not entirely created by you (ie: you CGed somebody else's lineart) is counted as cheating. You must be the original creator of the entire image and/or entire story. I will not accept the excuse that your friend told you that you could send it in for him/her.
Voters: Only one vote per email each month is allowed. Please don't vote twice or more using different emails. You can vote for up to three people each in the Overall, Creative and Story categories. If your friend who entered tells you to vote for only them, you can and that's okay, but it's better to choose more entries that you like. Maximize your votes!! Vote for nine people instead of just one! Don't throw your vote away! I highly recommend that you vote for more than one person's submission. Do not use fake emails. I can usually tell if someone uses a fake address. Groups of people should not all send votes at the same time for one person in a row. If I see this, I will only count the first few three votes or so.

3. If it so happens that you cheated and I found out (tsk, tsk), your entry will be removed from the contest, and you won't be able to enter future contests until you apologize. If you are a repeat offender, you will be banned from the contest.

4. Requirements: At the least, you must have a way to send in your image using the internet (that includes a scanner if needed!) and a valid email address to be able to enter the contest. All that's required for your entry is an image of the character you created using the guidelines, your name or online name and a valid email address. I will never ask you for personal information beyond your email. You must be at least 12 years of age or older to enter the contest without parental consent. If you happen to be 11 or younger, please consult your parents/guardians to see if it's okay before sending in your entry.

5. All art pieces and typed material that I recieve will still be your property. Neither I nor Athey will use your art/story for any other purpose without your permission other than for display. So relax! Nothing bad will happen to the beautiful art you created for these contests. But you can't hold us responsible if somebody comes along and decides to steal your art for themselves. Having your art in the contest means you run the risk of somebody claiming it as their own.

6. If you happen to win in any category in the MOC, as a prize you will recieve an image saying that you won the MOC. This image is yours and you can use it in any way you want to. Just don't say you created it. Why would you do that?

7. If you happen to be a part of the Winner's Circle (you won the vote in one, two or three categories), you can enter future contests, but you won't be eligible to win in a category you've previously won in. In other words, you can't win the Overall, Story or Creative vote more than once. I do encourage you to enter if you've won before, though, because it's fun!

8. Images: Your image must be clear and recognizable. Don't send in any of that abstract stuff or a really bad quality scan. The maximum width is 490 pixels. If you send in anything wider than that, you give me permission to resize the image so it fits on the page. I highly discourage you to send in super-huge pictures fresh off the scanner because that slows my work down significatly. Images must be in a .jpg (.jpeg) or a .gif file format. Zip or rar files are okay to send in, but please notify me what is in them. I will kill whoever sends me a .bmp or other type of file (not literally, ha). You can send in your image two different ways: by sending in the URL of your picture from your website or by attatching it to an email to me. A local URL (example: C:\\My Pictures\hello.jpg) does not work. If you happen to forget to send me your image or send it in the wrong format, I will do my best to notify you as soon as I can. Your picture should not contain any inappropriate material that would class it as "graphic", "hentai", "pornographic" or "ecchi". Tasteful nudity is okay, but you must warn me in your comments. Do your best with your entry in the time that you are allowed. Don't send in a crappy five-minute sketch you feel bad about. I want you to show Bakaneko and the world a picture you are proud of.

9. I tend to make mistakes. Lots of them. If you see that your submission wasn't set up or was messed up, or if you did not get a confirmation email, please tell me about it. If I made a terrible mistake with your entry, you will be given 5 honorary votes in each category to make it up to you. I am always trying to improve, so I hope this rule won't be important to you.

10. If you send in your entry late, it will be put up after all the votes have been tallied and the winner announced. It's only going to be a link to your image, so please don't bother writing a story for a late entry.

11. When the submissions of a contest are posted for voting on, and you don't see your submission, I will not listen to your complaints if you did not receive a confirmation email after you sent the submission in the first place. I always send them out, so it's your responsibility to contact me before I post the entries if you do not receive a confirmation within three days.
