He knew, sooner or later their differences were going to come between them, and it wouldn't be a pretty sight. He knew who was going to win. No-one. And then the world would be his. (You're losing your mind.) A voice spoke into his head. 'What?' he looked around. There wasn't anyone near him. (Do you really think that by annihilating both races you would then be accepted?) 'Shut up!' he fumed. (I will not, until you hear me out! Please, save this world from itself!) 'And just who do you think you are?' (...the one that brought you into this world...) 'Look here, I don't have a mother! My mother never existed.' (I'm here..) 'Oh, and if she did, where was she when I was rejected by both sides? Where was she when I was cast out, only to be left here alone wandering amongst these mountains? Where was she when I needed her most?' (I am sorry.) 'So you are. A mother who stuck a knife in herself because she was too scared to face up to this ugly being of me?' (NO!) (You are... wrong. But, you know that I am a bad mother. You know that I shouldn't have fallen in love with a human. You know that the consequence of our love was you. But I love you, did you ever know that, too? Every moment I am hurting. Hurting, because I left you alone to be rejected... I am so sorry... please forgive me...) 'I don't care. I hope you suffer forever! Just keep on thinking about me, just keep on hurting!!' (I pray everyday in the hope that one day, you will come to know the love I have for you) 'Your prayers were in vain. Leave me alone.' (But...) 'Leave me alone!' (As you wish. But despite everything, please remember this. That I'll always, forever, love you.) Long after her soft voice faded from the brittle air of the earth, he paused and thought. Maybe he was a fool, he thought over and over again. A fool which deserved nothing better but to die. How could he ever hurt the only one who truly accepted him? '..that one day, you will come to know the love I have for you...' One day, when even the earth was crying out for blood, he made his decision. Using the powers which he inherited from his mother, and the knowledge which he had gained from his father, he created three realms. He placed the race of immortals in one realm, and the race of mortals in another. Thus, he separated the two races. He cast the tortured earth, the old realm, into the fourth dimension. He used the third realm to be placed between the two realms and called it 'the dividing realm.' As well as keeping the two realms divided, it would be a place where mortal's dreams were kept. He passed this knowledge to the elders of the elves, with a feeling that he owed this race something. He also created a blue crystal and gave it to the elves, telling a select few that it would bring the user temporarily to the dividing realm. He created this with the strong remembrance of his mother's forbidden love. He warned them that draining the power of this crystal would close the portal to the dividing realm, and would also eliminate any hope of bringing the two realms back together. Maybe, one day... he thought, maybe that day will come again.
Part 2 'Really? Can you do that?!' Mareo grinned. Ariel's excitement was catching. 'To be in the same world with each other! A real realm! Not one that will die when dawn arises, one that will be eternally ours... Do you know what I tell my friends? I tell them that I am in love with an elf. And they say...' She smiled coyly. 'And?' Mareo asked. 'They tell me to go back to sleep. So I do!' She giggled. Then she shook her head, concentrating, as if in disbelief. 'So you really can do that?' 'Yes, I can. But...' Ariel's expression changed, and she nodded gravely. Mareo had told her many times about the war. She thought quietly for awhile. 'The war was caused by what? Greed. Humans wanted this, elves wanted another. And it clashed in a big way.' Ariel analysed. 'Both mortals and immortals are such selfish, single minded beings,' Mareo muttered. 'Not all humans are like that,' Ariel was shocked. 'And I'm sure elves aren't like that either!' 'We could tell them. Make them understand, right? The war was also caused by many misunderstandings. Who says we can't learn from our mistakes?' Ariel asked. (..and who says we can't repeat them?) a small voice whispered into his mind. 'I guess we could always try.' Mareo said gently. His mind traced back to a conversation he had with Jessica only hours ago. 'Mareo.' Jessica caught him gazing at the crystal. Mareo jumped guiltily. 'Jessica?' Jessica looked at him coldly. 'The crystal... the divider between the two worlds... have you...??' She found her voice. 'You went there, didn't you?' 'Jessica, I can explain! Give me a moment to..' 'I know what you did, what you have been doing these past days, no, these past months.' 'Jessica, I...' 'There's nothing else to know. You entered that human girl's dreams, that mortal girl, Ariel,' Jessica spat Ariel's name out as if it were dirt. 'I know what you are going to do, Mareo. You are going to re-open the portal. But, no matter how much you hate to admit it, Mareo, the war between mortals and immortals would then be inevitable!' 'We could tell them, they would listen!' Jessica laughed at him scornfully. 'But would they really listen?!?' 'Everyone will hate you on both sides! The elves will hate you for re-opening the portal, and the humans will hate you for being different.' Jessica paused, her hands clenched into fists, suppressing down her anger. She stormed towards the door. 'You drained the portal of its power, didn't you?!' Mareo yelled after her. 'You did, didn't you?' There she stopped, almost jumping as guiltily as he did before. 'I do not know what you are talking about.' 'I'm sure you do! What other matters have you lied to me about?' (I am sorry... these things have to be done.) Jessica's quiet voice spoke, trembling into his mind. (I wanted you to... to notice me.. I wanted you to... love me back, after all those years of waiting, aching...) 'If you really loved me, then why are you separating me from the one I love most?' Mareo was yelling now, but he didn't care. He was hating, hurting. How could Jessica, his constant childhood companion, do such a thing to him? (Because... the one you love is not me.) She turned, anger drained, her face only tired. 'Mareo, I plead not only on my behalf, but on the behalf of all the beings which dwell in this realm.' 'Is it worth it? To please yourself--but at others expense? To satisfy your hunger--but to leave others hungry? Please, Mareo, think of the others. They have suffered too much already.' 'But I love her,' Mareo heard himself say. Jessica turned away. 'But I love you too, Mareo,' she said sadly as she walked away. 'Why?' she wailed, 'Why doesn't he ever think of me, too?'
'Mareo?' Ariel looked anxiously into his equally doubtful eyes.
'But you know we'll always be together, won't we, Mareo?'
Mareo bit his lip. How he longed to say that it was true, if only he could calm down those wavering feelings of doubts which washed across his mind, if only...
If only it were true. Comments: Heh-- don't ask me.. I don't know! The main character, Mareo, is the one with the light grey hair with the girl (Ariel) with the blondish hair. The character on the top with the dark grey hair is the half-elf. (But I'm sure you all knew that, didn't you :) Anyways, I never knew something like this would be sooo time-consuming, due to my laziness I haven't done anything like this, cg-thing, before. I know, I know... 'usually' a moon doesn't have a lens flare, but since this is fantasy, guess anything goes, right? ^_- |
