Story: In an especially grim era that you and I would
call the near future, a torent of corruption and
disorder swept the world amid the rise of an
international crime synicate known as the Lex Family.
Taking advantage of the seething discontenment that
was left in the wake of a devastating Depression, the
Lexes established themselves as a permanent feature of
the deteriorating social order, and their associates
numbered by the millions. It was on a New Year's Day
that one such associate, a young man named Taro,
accidentally exposed himself while conducting an
assassination attempt. As he was notoriously
effecient at doing "dirty work", Taro was confronted
by an enormous police response and was forced to
surrender. Convicted for over a hundred counts of
first degree murder, it goes without saying that he
was executed almost immediately, but his punishment
didn't stop there: the indiscriminate and widespread
nature of his crimes had attracted the attention of
the Bodhisattva, who sentenced Taro to spend eight
millennia in Hell-Paso. After serving only three of
those, his cunning Attorney of Celestial Law, Benjamin
Franklin, was able to negotiate parole opportunities
for Taro to return to earth in another life, albeit
under strict circumstances. Specifically, he would be
placed in the closest supervision of whatever shades
happened to be nearby, since it's well known that
shades have little else to do with their time.
Also, he was assigned to participate in what was known
as atonement service, were he would provide subtle
guidance through the power of suggestion to those
living in need. Finally, he was rendered incapable of
inflicting harm by a Writ of Nonviolence, a very
powerful curse that reflected any pain he might cause
back upon himself exponentially. It was made clear
that Taro would have to live out his upcoming life
under these stipulations before his memory would be
erased and he was allowed to join the natural cyce of
reincarnation again. Much to his dismay, he was
assigned to live in a Nalp body. Ill balanced, barely
functional, and worst of all, immortal, Taro
immediately abandoned all hope of ever inhabiting a
human body again and struck off on his own. Since
then, he has traversed distance and time alike, having
visited every combination imaginable at one point or
another. He has spent endless centuries acquiring
unparalleled knowledge and although he has found a new
interest in helping others, his cantankerous nature
creates staunch rifts between himself and his charges.
He currently works at Horseshoe University as a
professor of Chemistry, Veterenary Medicine, Japanese,
French, Russian, Physics, Psycology, and Business, and
as an academic advisor.
Comments: First of all, sorry that I couldn't send this
submission through the normal channels like everyone
else. This JPG didn't exist anywhere in cyber space
and i didn't have time to upload it normally. If it's
any inconvenience, I'm really sorry. Anyways, I tried
to keep this little guy's backstory as concise as i
could. Hope you like it.
