Character's Story:
Smoke and dust swirled on the worn path before settling back down on the ground as two very strange companions trudged along the road. "I just don't get it" said the little, stubby creature who hovered above its companion. "Kishi!" the other companion said, tossing her dark blonde hair to one side.
"They should be gratefull instead of running us out of town. Why...How do you put up with it?!"Kishi wondered.
The girl sighed, checking her injured wing. Her pair of emerald wings hung limply at her sides; sore and tired. Her long, soft hair swished from side to side as she continued to walk.
"Honestly, Laythie why do we keep going on these ridiculous travels all over Syllumina?" her creature friend repeated the same question it had asked her before entering the previous town they had just left.
"I don't know," Laythie said, glancing down at her travel-stained boots."I guess I just want to know why I'm here. And besides, I may look like some weird hybrid , but I'm totally harmless-that is when I'm not angry. I want to show the creatures of Syllumina that I'm not evil!"
"You are good, Laythie!"insisted her blue coloured friend."You have a fighting spirit of a devil, but a heart of an angel. Never forget that!"
" Yes I know! But every time creatures see my wings, they assume that I'm a demonic being! They don't even take the time to get to know me!"Laythie cried in anger and frustration. She dashed ahead of her friend into the forest near the road.
Straining her ears, Laythie made her way to a bubbling brook, knowing that Kishi would find its way to her by scent. Slipping off her boots, she dipped her feet into the cool water. Gazing at her reflection, she noticed how her golden orange skin shone beautifully in the sunlight.
Suddenly, Laythie sensed she wasn't alone. She heard a scuffle and then a tiny voice yelled, "HELP!" It was Kishi! Pulling her boots back on, she ignored the pain from her wings as she darted in and out of the trees, looking for any sign of her friend's presence. From the corner of her eye, she spotted Kishi being held captive by a devil! She couldn't believe her eyes! She had never seen a devil this close before. It's red eyes observed her curiously.
"Let my friend go!"Laythie commanded."Or else!"
"Or else what?!" the creature asked. It laughed menacingly. Licking its putrid lips, the demonic being pulled a long blade from its back.
Laythie reeled back in disgust. The creature laughed once more. She finally noticed that her friend had been knocked unconscious. Concentrating, she could feel burning balls of light take shape in her fists. Then, she suddenly shot them at the creatures wings. The devil howled in pain, grasping its burnt wings.Enraged, the devil's eyes fixed themselveson her, then on Kishi's unmoving body. With one swift movement, the devil pushed the blade into her friend.
"NOOOOO!" Laythie screamed. It was at that moment that three arrows whizzed past her and into the demon's chest, killing it. Seizing the moment, Laythie ran to her friend's side.
"No! This can't be"Laythie cried, holding her friend's tiny, lifeless body."I can't go on without you. I need you." The tears began to fall, and she could feel her throat constrict as a sob welled up inside of her. "No," she whispered. She closed her eyes, willing Kishi's body back to life. Nothing happened. Fluttering her eyelids open, she felt a gentle touch on her shoulder. Raising her magenta eyes, she saw the most beautifull and radiant being. Laythie realized it was an angel. Glancing sadly back down, Laythie and the angel watched Kishi's body being enveloped by a multitude of bright, coloured lights.
"Good bye, my friend," Laythie choked out. And the tears contiued to stream down, falling right through her friend's transparent body. The memories of her journey with Kishi from the moment they first met flashed before her eyes. "You will always be in my heart,"she whispered, and then Kishi's body was gone.
The angel took Laythie with him into the blue sky. She didn't know or care where, but she knew it was a place where she could mourn, heal, and rediscover hope and love again.
