Artist: Reala The HarlequinEmail: brendan_keeley@hotmail.com Website: -- Character's Story: Today’s very warm, full of sun and life. The sky is ever so blue, a few puffy, white clouds here and there to fulfill the scenery. The grass is flourished in it’s wonder lively green shades. Flowers bloom to their fullest as the bees dip from one to another, taking in their sweet, wonderful pollen. The birds sing over head as they are perched atop of tree limb, looking down on the people below. The park is filled with people, most of them couples with their children running about, lost in their own fantasy world. The bird finishes its’ song as it sees one of the younger humans toss a small piece of bread to the ground. The bird flaps furiously as it hovers just above the ground, attempting to land. As the bird lands upon it’s feet, it’s wings fold nicely under itself. The bird’s eyes blink once before it’s head goes down to the ground quickly, pecking at the bread. Soon, the bread is devoured and the bird has again taken flight, most likely back to a tree limb to return to it’s singing and watching. The human, a young boy, laughs and smiles in glee as the bird disappears over the masses of trees around them. The child turns to his parents, a large smiles on his face, only boasting his one tooth which lies in the center, just under his top lip. The child is wearing red overalls, the buttons being gold with some kind of unidentifiable marking on them. A large pocket rests on the child’s chest, holding a piece of half eaten cookie. He’s probably saving it for later. The overalls end in shorts and soon after, his folded white socks and red shoes begin. His shoes are poorly laced as he has been running around all day. However, one still remains tied, the strings holding on for dear life as they fight to remain tied. As he turns to his parents, the male gives a warm smile. He smile is as soft as his dark brown eyes. His youth now starting the process of fading. However, his face has yet to be full of wrinkles. His hair is slightly combed to the side. His dark brown hair matches his eyes has a glint of shine to it. His body seems to be well built, hidden only by his loose fitting shirt. It’s more than likely that he works out for his health. His white color shirt harbors a small insignia on his left side and is loosely tucked into his khaki pants. A brown belt weaves in through the loops in his pants, only to meet it’s tail in a faded gold buckle. He has two large pocket on the outsides of his legs, one a bit more filled than the other. His pants end in a nice, comfortable roll, covering the top of his gray tennis shoes. His shoes are professionally tied, but look a little old. His shoes all together are old, probably being 2 or 3 years old. The man’s companion, a younger woman, maybe of the around the age of 25 or 26 walks blissfully beside him. Her face harbors a more loving smile, complete with the absence of wrinkles. Her face is narrow, partially covered with make-up. Her short brown hair covers her right eyebrow and almost her eye in the front. Her hair in the back flows gently down to her shoulders, coming out into a small curl. The woman’s lips are small, as a young woman’s should be. She wears a beautiful chain and heart pendant around her neck. The necklace set is gold with a few glimmering stones on the pendant itself. The pendant rests on her nicely fit, white shirt. It’s an average white shirt, like the ones you see in a Froot of the Loom commercial. Her shirt ends over her dark blue skirt. Her skirt is a bit short, but not too short. On the left corner of the shirt is a small cursive “C”. It’s probably part of her school uniform or something to the sort. On her feet, she wears sandals that allow her to show off her dark blue toe nails. The couple walk together, hand in hand as before they stop to noticing their child running towards them. The boy nearly trips on a crack in the walkway, but is caught suddenly by his father. The boy smiles and quickly wraps his arms around the man as he taken from the ground. The woman smiles as the boy turns his head to look her. His arms reach out towards her, his sign for wanting her to take him into her arms. The woman gently takes the boy from the man’s arms and brings him into her own. The boy places his head on the woman’s shoulder, snuggling into her slightly. The couple smiles, watching the boy as they begin their walk off under the trees. The family is at home now, for it has grown late. The sun has set behind the giant metropolis buildings that lie in the west. The park has grown quiet, bird have taken to their homes as well. The black night covers the streets now, engulfing every and anything in it’s path. The only thing that keeps the dark night away is the street lamps on the streets, revealing a path to an unknown destination. The streets are empty however, that is, except for a quick moving shadow in the corner. The shadow quickly makes it’s way down the path of street lights, being careful to stay away from the light of the street lamps. Only a fraction of it’s body makes it under the light. It seems to be a shroud of some kind. The body must be covered in a cloth, no real identification can be made. The shadow ignores the light as it makes an attempt to reveal the unknown thing. The shadow then switches it’s direction as it’s movement stops at the steps of an building, a human dwelling. The shadow quickly ascends the steps, only to come to a sudden halt. The shadow remains motionless for quite a few moments. Then a loud buzzing sound fills the quiet streets and in mere moments, the shadow is gone, back to where ever it came from. The buzzing was a doorbell, a door itself seeming to feel the shock of the buzz throughout it’s body and decides to open its mouth for whoever disturbed it. However, there is a tall man at the door. It’s the man from the park, this is his home. His head and eyes turn as he inspects the area, looking for a person to be about. There is none, only a large box at his feet, a piece of old newspaper stuck to it by chewing gum. The man take the paper into his hand, his eyes running across the paper quickly, reading it’s message. His fingers fold the paper back together as his eyes motion themselves down to the box. He kneels slowly as his hand takes hold of a flap, lifting it back. As the box is opened, his eyes widen slightly and the box moves. He slowly comes to his feet again, his eyes searching the area again for signs of life. He gently takes the box up into his arms and backs into the house again. The door to the house slowly shuts, the light of the house falling from the stairs, and it is dark again. “What’s that, dear?” The woman asks as she slowly steps down the wooden, shiny steps. In her hand she holds a long metal object, similar to a miniature spear. In her other hand, her fingers cling to a wad of cloth, a string coming out of one of the folds and to the tiny spear. Her eyes are placed on the box as the man carries it in. She can tell by the way he’s holding it that something with some weight is contained within. She ends her journey down the steps at the carpet by the door where she joins the man. “I don’ t know, honey. The door bell rang and when I came to, no one was there, only this box. Very strange…” He concluded. He gently put the box by the fireplace near the center of the living room. The room was very elegant and clean. The people that lived here weren’t rich, but were still pretty well off. There were many paintings and portraits on the wall. The paintings were some what old, but not something Van Gogh had made or anything. Fine wooden tables were at the end of a couch which set parallel with the fireplace. Large expensive vases sat on these wooden tables, some harboring lovely flowers. The couches themselves were the norm. Most the other houses on the street has something nearly the same. There were pillows at the corners of the couch, only two actually matching the color of the couch. Two elegant chairs sat on the opposite sides of the couch, very old, but very new at the same time. The box moved slightly in front of the fireplace as the man removed the flaps once again. The women watched curiously behind the chair. She was somewhat afraid of what lie inside. The man, however, simply waited on his knee as two ears and eyes made their way out of the box. The little green eyes, moving from the man, to the woman, then back to the man. The eyes and ears submerge again, back into the box. Then, suddenly, the creature jumps from the box, out onto the carpet. The woman shrieks a bit, but then hushes herself as the creature crawls under the chair, looking at the two people. “Is that what I think that is?” He woman asked, now behind the man with her fingers dug into his shirt. She was peeking over his shoulder at the creature under the chair, slightly nudging him to go towards it. And he did so, with her being able to react fast enough to his movement. She nearly fell, but caught herself and scampered back to the safety of the stairs. The man kneeled in front of the chair, his hand out in an offering of peace to the creature. It slowly stepped forwards, putting it’s nose to the man’s finger, sniffing it at first. The man smiled warmly, as he usually did. The creature slowly crawled out from under the chair, coming into light. It was on all fours and, from what the man could see, had cat like paws. However, much to the couple’s amazement, the creature was very catlike, sporting a tail, ears, and all! The couple’s eyes widen as something else came to them. With all these cat like features, this must be a cat. But alas! It was not a cat…for the body and face were too much like that of a human. The man overlooked the creature again. “Honey, I think this is a neko-jin. I’ve heard about these, but I’ve never actually seen one. It seems to be a girl…” He informed the woman as he sat the cat down in the chair it was under. “Um, what’s a neko-jin?” She asked, slowly coming down the stairs, watching the neko-jin every step of the way. The neko-jin wasn’t paying much attention to either, for it had an itch. The little neko-jin was slightly curled up into a ball, trying to bite out an itch on it’s back. It seems this neko-jin’s animal instincts were more dominate than it’s human instincts. The neko-jin had green hair that matched it’s beautiful colored eyes. Her body was bare, but clean and from her rear was a cute green tail. It’s big, bright eyes looked to the couple. “What are we going to do with it?” The woman asked, now behind the man again. “We’re probably going to have to call someone to come and get it.” He said, watching the neko-jin closely. “You…don’t want me?” The voice had came from the neko-jin and it had startled the couple. The voice was small and innocent and full of sadness. The two people looked to each then to the neko-jin in a bit of amazement. “What? I’m a bad kitty…?” She cutely asked. “Uh, no…We just, we just aren’t in need of a pet right now…” The woman told the neko-jin. “But, I don’t want to be your pet…I’m not an animal…” She said sadly. “Not an animal? Of course you’re an animal. I mean, look at you! How can you say your not? You’re certainly not human.” The woman had came out from behind the man, she was feeling a bit more brave. “I’m…not an animal…Mreow…” The neko-jin said quietly to herself. What the woman had said, had hurt the neko-jin’s feelings. She didn’t liked the idea of neko-jins being called animals, or pets. She understand perfectly as humans did, she was even smarter than them. She had the ability to learn like humans with the instincts of a cat. She wanted to be treated fairly. “I’m not…an animal!” She said a bit louder. “Dear, I don’t want this thing around my son.” The woman told the man as she looked to him with her arms crossed. She was trying to take charge of the situation as she did not like the tone of the neko-jin. “But honey…” He wished to keep the neko-jin around. He saw this as an opportunity to rake in some money. Neko-jins were rare, but a neko-jin in New York was even rarer, maybe there were more and could use this one to find the others. He could make a farm for them! “Yes…a farm,” he kept thinking to himself. But the woman had already grabbed the neko-jin and chucked her back into the box, a bit abusively. The neko-jin flipped over as it hit the corner of the box. Soon the light was shut out on the neko-jin and she was back in the darkness. There were a few words exchanged before there was some stomps. It grew quiet for only a few moments before the neko-jin heard the sound of a creak. The warm she felt from the home faded away, and a cold draft entered the box. Suddenly she could feel herself light before a rough rumble shook the box and flipped her upside down. It remained quiet for a few minutes, the neko-jin trying to find a way out. Soon, she grew exhausted by her efforts and curled into a ball for warmth. Her eyes fell heavy and soon she was fast asleep in the night air. There were loud tiny beats on the box, at first sparse, but then more numerous. The neko-jin awoke as she noticed her box was caving in around her. Afraid, she huddled in the corner, away from the sinking side. She pushed her head under her paws, fearing her demise as the box caved in and her body became wet. It was raining, storming in fact as jagged pieces of light flashed across the sky before the neko-jin’s eyes. She was very much afraid and terrified as the black night seemed to be laughing at her. She quietly scampered away from the flashing light and noisy sound that came with it. Slipping and sliding across the wet surface, the neko-jin made it’s way into tipped over tin can. The can was very large, larger than her previous cardboard home. She crawled to the back, away from the rain and cold as she tired curled up in a corner. Her eyes watched cautiously as she could still see the flashes far off behind the buildings. Her ears lowered and soon the her eyes did as well. She slowly tucked her head away from the night and outside world, “It’s so cold….” Comments: -- |
