Character's Story: "Too hot?" Oki snickered, blowing on his own coffee before taking a sip. "Shuth up!" Toshiro spat as he continued to fan his tongue. "Thah really hurt!" Oki laughed again and shook his head. "Don't get mad at me, I didn't force you to pour it down your throat." Toshiro glared but said nothing. He blew on his cappuccino before taking a cautious sip and picked up the newspaper. "Hey, the Dodgers beat New York again," He said, noticing the article on the front page. He laughed, "They must have paid off the ump, right Oki?" The Dodgers certainly were on a winning streak, which was good news for Los Angeles. Or most of Los Angeles, anyway. Oki was a fan of the Yankees, and Toshiro often pointed it out whenever they lost to another team. Especially their home town's team. But Oki was too preoccupied to comment, as he was staring out of the cafe's display window. "What's the matter?" Toshiro asked, wondering what had caught his friend's attention. "See some hot chick?" "Nah, 'Shiro... I'm thinking maybe you should go home. It looks like it might rain..." Oki said nervously. The sky was getting darker earlier then it should have, what with it being 6:00 and summertime. This wouldn't have sounded like much of a reason to leave to anyone else, but what with Toshiro's little problem... it made Oki a tad nervous. "I don't think so... it's just a bit of overcast, no problem." Toshiro said, also gazing out the window. "It said this morning that it would be 'bright and sunny alllllll day!'" He said, mocking the cheesy weatherman from the Morning News. Oki wasn't convinced. "Yeah, well, you know how they are. They almost never get the weather right." He glared at Toshiro, stealing a glance at his waist. His eyes flickered back to his friend's face and he continued, "You should be more careful! With the way you..." He lowered his voice and looked around their table, making sure no one was listening in. "With the way you are, you should be cautious of every cloud. Or do you WANT another public fiasco on your hands? You couldn't have already forgotten the bit with the lion at Nick's place?" "No... of course not." At the mention of that incident the 18-year old unconsciously tensed, his tail wrapping more securely around his waist. He remembered that night quite well... the barbeque had been great, but... well, it wasn't HIS fault that Nick's girlfriend decided to wear furry hat to the party. The downpour began halfway through, and he ended up mentally scarring a few people. He still had no idea why he'd kept the tail when he'd changed back. He figured all the liquor he had in him that night affected the chemical part of the change... It would have been extremely hard to hide the fact that he HAD a tail, if not that everyone in town seemed to go through a 'furry-accessory' faze. It was common to see a lot of kids with furry hats, wristbands, and belts walking down the street. The faze was over, but thankfully, all Toshiro had to worry about was someone thinking him 'out of touch'. He sighed and stood up, grabbing his coat from the back of his chair. "I guess I should go... it'll probably be tight beating the rain home. Let's hang out tomorrow." "Sure... call ya later 'Shiro, and hurry!" With that the tailed teenager ran out the door and jogged down the street, glancing at the sky every couple of minutes, hoping that Oki was wrong, and that it would only be cloudy that day. Oki. Oki was always worrying about Toshiro... ever since they'd met. It hadn't been so bad at first... Toshiro had always found it hilariously funny, and had always loved causing scenes. And even when they'd first met, he and Oki, it had been all jokes. But now... well, it could be worse, Toshiro thought. At least Oki-- Thunder rumbled. He ran past a woman walking her daughter down the street, and the little girl shrieked at the sound. He ran faster. This is what Oki always warned him about, the way a mother warns her child not to get caught out in the rain without a jacket. Except most mothers don't have to worry about their children turning into random things or people. Toshiro laughed to himself at the thought of Oki as a mother. Lightning flashed and Toshiro ran, breathing hard and only hoping to reach the lobby of his building in time. He dashed through crowds, around poles and between cars, almost getting hit by one. 'Just one more block... Damn, Oki warned me just in ti--' The first drop fell and splashed off Toshiro's cheek. He gasped and panicked, his heart racing, his breathing labored. He felt the changes begin and ran again. He almost jumped for joy as he passed the high school. He flew towards it, and threw himself around the corner of the building, out of sight of the street. He panted as his body finished its change, and he glanced down at himself and was shocked to find that nothing had changed. He was still human, still wearing all his clothes. Wait... something had changed... his skin looked darker, tanner. And his clothes DID feel a bit looser... 'Oh HELL no...' Hoping against all hope that he wasn't who he thought he was, he looked into one of the darkened school windows and yelped at his reflection. He was Oki. He was big, tall, tan, dark-haired, dark-eyed, fun, happy, caring Oki. He nearly got sick on himself. 'Oh man, Oki's gonna kiiiiillllll meee....' He whimpered and walked back out into the street, trying to look casual and wondering what exactly would happen, both that night, and once Oki found out whom Toshiro had happened to turn into. Comments: don't think the pic came out as well as it could have. It was my first time, stupidly enough, working with cell-style shading on photoshop. I think it's okay, but it'll have to improve some. I'm happy with the pic overall though. :) |
