Title: Never Again

Story:
"But I really need your help this time!" Sarai complained.

"Well find someone else to help you," Shadyn mumbled. A loud knock sounded on the wooden door.

"Open up." A loud grizzly voice demanded of the people inside. Shadyn peered up at the door through his red hair. He slouched lazily against the wall, seeming to be almost unconscious. As he lifted his head the sun lit against his eyes revealing the fire within them. They sparkled a deep blood red. His pupil, even darker, was the center of a ruby. The knocking started to get louder.

"Somebody better open up!" shouted an aggressive voice.

"Shit," Shadyn cursed realizing just who it was. He rose from his position and crept out the back door.

Before him stood the beautiful buildings of Venice, or so they were known. The alley's odor called to insects in the damp heat. Shadyn crept quickly down the alleyways with much ease and practice. Beggars in nothing but a filthy rag reached out to him with bony hands. Children ran past him playing barefoot. Shadyn had gotten to know the life of poverty and had befriended the skills of a thief. He was the hero of the poor, but recoiled at the thought of it.

Sarai ran out the door behind him.

"Shadyn! Wait! Please wait," tears began to stream down her eyes as he disappeared around every corner. She needed his help. The sound of tears made him recoil with guilt.

"Okay, but this is the last time," he said as he came around a corner, a crooked smile on his face. Sarai jumped on him smiling as the tears came running down her face.

"'kay, I'll never ask again," Sarai squeaked happily. Good because I'm never coming back, he thought.

Comments: This story takes place in semi-recent Venice. I finally made the deadline! Anyways, it was fun! ^^
